TENSION: Court Orders Sureties Of Kanu To Produce Him

Court Orders Sureties Of Kanu To Produce Him
==================================
The Federal High Court in Abuja, the Nigeria's capital territory had ordered the two sureties of the IPOB Leader, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu - Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and the Jewish priest Emmanual Shaloh, and an Abuja-based accountant - to produce the accused in the court with immediate effect.

Mr. Kanu who was bailed on 25th April 2017 with each of sureties providing #100m each as bond, was expected to appear in the court on Tuesday, 17th October 2017, which was part of the conditions that accompanied the bail.

The sureties were asked to produce the defendant, or risk the forfeiture of the #100m bond which would be accompanied with an arrest warrant against them.

However, one of the sureties who is the Senator representing Abia South, Sen. Abaribe has applied to be discharged as surety to Mr. Kanu whose whereabouts is currently unknown to the concerned authorities.

He filed the application in court on Tuesday, October 17, 2017. But his application was not accepted by the court.
It would be recalled that Sen. Abaribe, prior to the raids by the military, said Mr. Kanu had always assured him that he would be in court at adjourned dates.

“He was supposed to appear in court on October 17. It was our job as sureties to produce him in court. We have been speaking with him”, Abaribe had said.

“I spoke with him around August 23. I had to invite him to meeting with the South-East Senate caucus in my home at Obingwa, in Abia State.

“We discussed and we told him what we felt and where he was going out of bound and we told him to confine himself to the laws of the land.”
“Now, I spoke to him on September 11, and it was same day that the military moved into his place. Since then, nobody has seen him.” he landed.

Recall that after Mr. Kanu's disappearance, it was alleged by the former governor of Abia State Chief Orji Uzor Kalu that the former had left the Nigeria for London, the United Kingdom. Consequently, it was equally rumoured in various quarters that the defendant disguised himself as a woman while leaving the country.
