Nigeria Humiliates Zambia, Picks Ticket For Russia 2018
--------------------------------------------------------------------

The Nigeria's Super Eagles became the first African team to qualify for the 2018 World Cup to be hosted in Russia, after they defeated the Chipolopolo of Zambia 1-0 on Saturday, 7th October 2017 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital.

The first half of the encounter which ended goalless, saw the Chipolopolo almost dominating the field, troubling the Super Eagles with their pace in attack.
However, in the second half, the game swung the hosts’ way, after Gernot Rohr introduced Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi for Simon Moses.

Iwobi finished off a fine move down the right, following nice combination play between Victor Moses and Shehu Abdullahi, thereby recording a goal for his side at the 72nd minute of the match.

Nigeria now have 13 points at the top of Group and an unassailable six-point lead ahead of Zambia that maintains seven points, with one round of games left.

The Super Eagles are expected to meet Algeria next for the finishing touches of the qualifying stage, even though the awaited match would only be seen as ceremonial.

With this feat recorded, they have automatically joined their counterparts such as Brazil, Spain, Mexico, England, Germany, Iran, and South Korea, among others, who have also booked their places at the next year’s global football tournament in Russia.

It would be recalled that the Super Eagles equally defeated the Chipolopolo at their home on 7th October 2016 during their first encounter over the World Cup qualifying competition.
