Nigeria Battles Zambia Today At Uyo
---------------------------------------------
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will slog it out today being Saturday, 7th October 2017 with the Chipolopolo of Zambia at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State over the 2018 Russia World Cup qualifying.
Nigeria currently maintains ten points in the group ahead of the Zambia that boasts of seven points. The former requires a win in today's match to secure a ticket in Russia come 2018.
Now the ambitious Zambians believe they are unstoppable – not even by
the Super Eagles – who have been in the driver’s seat from the
inception of the qualifiers a year ago.
It would be recalled that Nigeria beat Zambia
2-1 in Ndola, Zambia twelve months ago. But, the Zambians opined that this belongs to history.
It's noteworthy that he Zambians are formidable – a blend of the
country’s U-20 team that won the 2017 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, later
quarter-finalists at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea.
However, Nigerians too are not short on quality players – from the reliable
Leon Balogun, William Troost-Ekong and the eclectic Victor Moses to the
mercurial Alex Iwobi.
With these players and others like Odion Ighalo, Moses Simon,
Ikechukwu Ezenwa, John Mikel Obi and Kelechi Iheanacho in their
elements, Zambia’s ambition could be described as 'over-ambition', while they are
being reminded that having been left loose for too long, it’s time they
are caged.
The match is expected to commence at 5pm Nigerian time.
