England Captain Quits International Career

The England Captain, Wayne Rooney on Wednesday 23rd August 2017 announced his meritorious retirement from international football with "immediate effect" as he expressed his utmost desire to concentrate on winning trophies with his present league, Everton.

Having seen the impact the 31-year-old has made at Everton thus far since returning to Goodison Park, the England manager Gareth Southgate was considering recalling him to the international fold but the renowned forward has taken the decison out of his hands.
Rooney disclosed, "it was great that Gareth Southgate called me this week to tell me he wanted me back in the England squad for the upcoming matches. I really appreciated that." But however stated that having already had a deep thought as well as consulted his family, he told the manager that he had now decided to "retire for good" from international football.
It would be recalled that Rooney became England's all-time record goalscorer and had since been on the fringes of Southgate's team as the said manager had recently looked forward to a future without him.
