Four Cogent Reasons ASUU Embarked on Indefinite Strike
____________________________________________

The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) on Sunday, August 13, 2017, directed its overall members across the country to henceforth embark on an indefinite Industrial Action. The affected individuals are by the notice, expected to steer clear of lecture classes, supervision of seminar cum project works, attending any meeting whatsoever, and what have you.

In his nationwide address made on Monday, 14th August in Abuja the Nigeria's capital territory, the National Chairman of the body Professor Biodun Ogunyemi categorically disclosed that the strike was informed by the Federal Government's inability to implement the 2009 agreement between the ASUU and the government as well as the 2013 Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two bodies. The boss who stated that the ASUU's members have exhausted their patience, further urged all patriots and concerned stakeholders to prevail on the government to do the needful.
It's noteworthy that both the federal and state owned universities are required to comply with the mandate.
However, further investigations made by the Rostrum revealed that the four (4) major factors that necessitated the industrial action are as follows:

1. Government's insensitivity towards funding for the revitalization of public universities and earned academic allowances.

2. Crisis trailing the registration of Nigerian Universities' Pension Management Company (NUPEMCO).

3. Fractionalization and non-payment of salaries.

4. Unsolved issues concerning the University Staff Schools.

It would be recalled that in December 2015, the present government under the watch of President Muhammadu Buhari ordered immediate retrenchment of the over 2,000 staff of the various University Unity Schools situated across the Nigerian state as measures had been taken to close down the said foundation institutions.
