President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria on Wednesday, 6th December 2017 granted presidential pardon to 500 inmates of the Kurmawa Central Prisons in Kano State. Each of the freed prisoners was equally handed over an envelope with undisclosed content to enable them locate their respective homes.

The president's action is said to be part of Federal Government’s efforts at decongesting prisons across the country.

The President, who was on a two-day working visit in Kano State, arrived the Kurmawa Central Prisons in the company of the state Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje. This was disclosed by Buhari’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, via his Twitter handle.

He wrote: “President Mummadu Buhari commissions the release of 500 inmates pardoned by Kano State Government at the Kurmawa Prison.

“After paying a homage to Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, President @MBuhari is now paying a visit to Kurmawa Prison to see the state of Nigerian prisons himself.”
